The Youth Academy recognizes that each child is a unique person with
individual patterns and rates of growth. Developmentally appropriate practices
will be based on the developmental needs of the children we serve.
The Youth Academy uses a developmentally appropriate curriculum. This
curriculum is approved by the Tennessee Department of Human Services. Our
curriculum is used in conjunction with an understanding about individual
growth patterns, strengths, interests, and experiences to design the most
appropriate learning environment. We provide for all areas of a child’s
development [physically, emotionally, socially and cognitively] through an
integrated approach. Appropriate practices are designed for the age group
being served, taking into consideration the specific needs and differences of
each child, including culture and language.
Experiences will match the child’s developing and emerging abilities; while at
the same time provide challenge for continued growth and expansion of
interests. Whether gently holding an infant, encouraging toddlers to share, or
providing preschoolers with a variety of enriching activities, an educated,
caring staff will support the healthy development of children six weeks to
twelve years old.
